Using Conditional Call Forwarding

IMG_0183So you ask yourself, what is Conditional Call Forwarding and why would I even want to use it?  The scenarios:

Call forward if busy – Forward an incoming call to another number if you’re on another call.

Call forward if not answered – Forward the incoming call to another number if it is not answered for a predefined period of time.

Call forward if not reachable – Forward incoming call to another number if the phone is off or without signal.

The iPhone will allow you to setup basic call forwarding to direct ALL calls to another phone number, but doesn’t provide any interface to setup “Call forward if busy” and other conditional call forwarding.

So how do you use additional Call Forwarding options?

Despite the lack of user interface on iPhone to activate conditional forwarding, you can create a special contact and use the so-called “Call Forwarding Code” to activate it.
Here are the tricks:

How to activate Conditional Call ForwardingDialPad

To activate “Call Forward If Busy”Dial *67*[another phone number]# and tap “Call”

To activate “Call Forward If Not Answered”Dial *61*[another phone number]# and tap “Call”

To activate “Call Forward If Unreachable”Dial *62*[another phone number]# and tap “Call”

To deactivate “Call Forward If Busy”, simply dial #67# and tap “Call”

To deactivate “Call Forward If Not Answered”, simply dial #61# and tap “Call”

To deactivate “Call Forward If Unreachable”, simply dial #62# and tap “Call”

IMG_0185Despite the lack of a special user interface on the iPhone to activate conditional forwarding, you are not going to have to remember all these codes.  You can create a special contact and use the so-called “Call Forwarding Code” as the phone number to activate it.

Say, you usually use “Call Forward If Busy”, create a new contact with the name “Call Forward When Busy” and the number *67*[forward to phone number]#. Next time, when you need to activate call forwarding, just look up that contact and dial the number.
